Improving hand sanitization for people of all ages in underdeveloped parts of the world

About CleanHands.org

CleanHands.org is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to improve access to effective handwashing and sanitation in communities where basic hygiene infrastructure is limited or unreliable.

Handwashing is one of the simplest tools available for preventing the spread of disease, yet billions of people around the world still lack access to basic handwashing facilities with soap and water.

Our goal is not simply to install another sink. We want to help develop sustainable handwashing systems that communities can depend on—combining reliable water access, durable equipment, available soap, responsible local oversight, and long-term support.

Our Mission

To improve health and dignity in underserved communities by expanding access to sustainable handwashing and sanitation solutions through collaboration, innovation, education, and service.

Why Handwashing Matters

0
Billion

people worldwide lack basic handwashing services at home

0
Million

people die each year because of inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene.

0
thousand

deaths from diarrheal disease could be prevented each year with universal access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

Simple. Proven.
Powerful.

Hand hygiene is one of the most effective measures available for reducing the transmission of infectious disease.

Clean water is only part of the solution.

Around the world, organizations are doing extraordinary work to bring clean water to communities that need it. CleanHands.org is exploring how better handwashing infrastructure can complement that work—helping ensure that access to water can also become access to effective hygiene.

What We’re Building

CleanHands.org is currently developing partnerships and exploring practical solutions for handwashing in underserved communities. Our work is focused on understanding what makes a handwashing system sustainable—not only the water source, but durable fixtures, reliable soap availability, maintenance, local responsibility, education, and long-term operation.

We believe the best solutions will come through collaboration with communities, universities, manufacturers, nonprofit organizations, and existing clean-water initiatives.

Clean Hands. Healthy Futures.

Every person deserves the ability to wash their hands safely and effectively.
